A WOMAN was taken to hospital at Warrington after being punched in the face and robbed by a thug as she walked her dog.
The incident was in Forrest Way, near to the Gatewarth industrial estate at Sankey Bridges, yesterday (Tuesday).
Detectives are appealing for information from anyone who witnessed the incident or saw anything suspicious in the area.
The 53-year-old woman was approached by a man who demanded she hand over her mobile phone.
He then punched her in the face and stole rings from her fingers, including her wedding ring, and her watch. He then ran off.
Police say the man was in his late teens or early 20s, about 5ft 8 inches tall and of thin build with a poor complexion, having red spots on his upper cheeks. He was wearing dark clothing.
DC Tom Hall, who is investigating the incident said: “The victim was left with significant swelling and bruising to her face and was admitted to Warrington Hospital for assessment. I would ask that any local residents, dog walkers, or employees on the industrial estate contact us if they saw or heard anything suspicious that will assist our investigation”
Inspector Dave Griffiths of Warrington West Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Robberies of this type are uncommon in our area. This was a vicious attack, clearly motivated by the greed of the offender who appeared determined to steal anything of value from the victim.
“His actions are despicable and the victim has been robbed of sentimental belongings that are irreplaceable. I want to reassure the local community that we will do all we can to identify and bring to justice the person responsible”
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 or, alternatively, the Crimestoppers hotline 0800 555 111.
