TED Leather – captain of Warrington Golf Club – has been recognised as one of England’s top golf volunteers.
He was presented with the men’s Services to Golf/Lifetime Achievement award at the England Golf Partnership’s annual Volunteer of the Year Awards in Lincolnshire.
Ted is known for his passion and enthusiasm for the Cheshire Golf Partnership and its work to grow the game.
He was instrumental in setting up the partnership and has chaired it since it launched in 2009, working with “a very good team who are responsible for the success we have at the moment.”
Over the past year he’s combined his CGP duties with those of club captain at Warrington, where he’s been a member for more than 40 years.
He was president of the Cheshire Union of Golf Clubs in 2008 and still sits on the executive committee.
Ted said: “I’ve always been very keen to develop golf and to look forward to the future, but I certainly didn’t expect this award.”
Craig Thomas, the Cheshire County Golf Partnership Development Officer and a PGA professional, commented: “Ted puts a vast amount of time into the partnership, he is extremely supportive of any projects we run within the partnership and he helps to keep the team together. Ted is a perfect role model as a CGP chairman and he is Cheshire CGP through and through.”
