POLICE today issued CCTV pictures of a raid on a Co-op store at Warrington 11 days ago.
Three men – one armed with a machete-style knife – were involved in the robbery at the Co-op store in Common Lane, Culcheth at about 9.05pm on February 18.
They got away with a quantity of cigarettes after punching a shop assistant in the face.
During the raid, one offender jumped over a counter to grab cigarettes from a display. Another, who was carrying a duvet cover, punched a sales assistant in the face.
During the raid, a third offender stood near the door with a machete style knife.
After filling the duvet cover with cigarettes all three men fled the scene in a grey Audi, travelling along Warrington Road at speed.
The sales assistant – a 21-year-old man – suffered swelling to the right side of his face and a small cut to the inside of his mouth. He was left shaken by the incident but did not need hospital treatment.
Detectives are continuing to carry out a number of lines of enquiry in relation to the incident including CCTV enquiries, house-to-house enquiries and any relevant forensic enquiries.
DC Simon Fisher said: “It is known that the vehicle travelled along the A574 Warrington Road in the direction of Glazebury. It has then turned right into Hey Shoot Lane and has been abandoned.
“It is likely that the suspects will then have got into another vehicle and driven off. I would like to appeal to anyone who has seen the Audi fleeing the scene, travelling along Warrington Road or being abandoned to contact us. I would also appeal to anyone who may have seen another car travelling at speed on the A574 at the time to get in touch.
“We are continuing to carry out a number of lines of enquiry and we are urging anyone who may have been in the shop at the time and witnessed the incident or may have any information, which might assist with our enquiries, to come forward.”
One man was about 5ft 11 inches tall, of slim build and was wearing a black woollen balaclava, black gloves, a red and black waterproof jacket with the hood pulled up over his face and dark trousers.
The second offender was about 5ft 10 inches tall and was wearing a black woollen balaclava and black gloves.
The third was a similar height and of medium build. He was wearing dark clothing and carrying a machete style knife.
Anyone with any information is urged to contact Cheshire Police on 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
