A COLLAPSED sewer under a busy main road at Warrington has flooded a number of properties – and will result in an emergency road closure next week.
The collapsed sewer is under the A562 Widnes Road at Penketh and flooding has affected properties in adjoining Back Lane, Penketh.
United Utilities will be carrying out emergency remedial work next week, with the A562 having to close between the Fiddlers Ferry Power Station entrance and the “Eight Towers” island at Widnes.
Work will start at 7pm this Friday and the road is expected to re=open on Monday, February 20.
Two diversion routes will be place. The main one will be will be the A5080 Farnworth Road and South Lane onto Watkinson Way in Widnes.
However due to a height restriction at the railway bridge on South Lane a secondary diversion route on the A57 Liverpool Road will also be signed again directing the traffic onto Watkinson Way.
United Utilities will be contacting residents and businesses directly in the area advising them of the works.
