NHS waiting list doubled – MP

THE number of NHS patients waiting more than 18 weeks for treatment in Warrington has doubled in a year and increased by more than two thirds since the Coalition Government took office, according to MP Helen Jones.
Between May 2010 and November last year, the number rose by 64 per cent while from November 2010 and November last year, the increase was 98 per cent, Ms Jones claims.
In May 2010, 69 patients were waiting longer than 18 weeks for treatment, by November the same year the figure was 57 but by November last year, the figure was 113.
The Warrington North MP (pictured) said: “These numbers are more than simple statistics; they are real people having to wait longer for treatment under this Tory-led Government.
“The number of people waiting longer than 18 weeks for treatment on the NHS in Warrington has doubled in a year. That is simply unacceptable.
“The Health and Social Care Bill, which is the biggest assault on the NHS since it was founded by Labour in 1948, is draining money from our health services. “Some £12.5 million is being taken out of health budgets in Warrington over the next two years to pay for David Cameron’s wasteful top-down re-organisation of the NHS.
“The Government needs to scrap its Bill and concentrate on letting the dedicated doctors and nurses across the NHS do their jobs and bring down waiting times.
“By the time Labour left office, waiting times had fallen to a historic low, but the Government is throwing that legacy away.”

  1. The trouble with making such comparisons is that it is based on the assumption that the original waiting time figures are correct and haven’t been manipulated in someway. I recall that there is a saying, “Lies, Damn Lies and statistics”.
