THE Friends of Grappenhall Library – the group of volunteers formed to re-open the old library in Victoria Avenue – have launched a competition to rename the building.
Prize is an iPhone 3GS – and closing date for entries is March 3 and there is no limit on the number of entries.
The new facility will be much more than a library, although it will still have an extensive collection of more than 3,500 donated books
But the building will have a much wider community use, details of which are still being worked out.
Possibilities include Mums and Tots groups, community meetings, pensioners’ groups, etc.
Volunteers have redecorated the building and stocked its shelves.
A series of open days have been held to allow local residents to see what has already been achieved inside the building.
“Love Your Library Day” – this Saturday, February 4 – has been chosen as an open day with a range of special activities between 10am and 2pm.
Entry forms for the competition are available at the library.

The Ted Lafferty Community Building.
‘Community Centre and Library’… or ‘Grappenhall HUB’.. or ‘The Grappenhall Community BUG’…
I could not agree more. Ted did a lot for Grappenhall and naming the Library after him would be a nice tribute.
