LOGISTICS company the DX group has opened a major new sorting and distribution centre dedicated to online retail at Warrington.
The centre, on the Barleycastle Trading Estate, Stretton, is part of the company’s strategy to become a key player in delivery for the fast-growing ecommerce industry.
The facility, which replaces two smaller DX centres in North Wales and Manchester, boasts sorting speeds of up to 4,000 parcels an hour, thanks to a £120,000 investment in equipment.
Around 100 people work at the site, serving the whole of the north of England.
The company claims the site will “dramatically increase” the capacity of its next-day national secure delivery service for etailers.
The development comes after a year in which it is claimed ecommerce grew by 16 per cent.
Gary Woods, managing director of longstanding DX client Park Retail, a voucher and prepaid gift card business, officially opened the centre and among the VIP guests were Warrington South MP David Mowat and MEP Brian Simpson.
Mr Woods said: “I am very pleased to open this impressive new centre in Warrington on behalf of DX and I am sure it will play a vital role in helping companies to capitalise on the exciting growth within the online retail sector.”
DX chief executive Petar Cvetkovic said: “We are delighted to officially open this state-of-the-art parcel sorting and distribution facility in Warrington, which has been created to meet demand from the fast-growing online retail sector.”
Mr Mowat said: “It’s always good to welcome new businesses to Warrington, especially those involved in fast-growing industries. This new investment will create jobs in Warrington both now and in the future.”
