Parish precept not to rise

GREAT Sankey Parish Council has decided unanimously not to increase its precept – the local council tax – this year.
There will also be no increase in rental charges at its community centres.
Cllr Keith Gleave, chairman of the finance committee, said: “Although parish council precepts have not been capped by government, it would not be right, in these cash-strapped times, to increase the burden on the people of the parish”.
The council will continue to provide its popular summer playschemes and contribute towards the provision of four dedicated Police Community Support Officers. It will also maintain its spending on community projects.
Continued expansion of housing development in Great Sankey have boosted local council tax income, and an increase in the number of groups using community centres has also boosted income.
