WARRINGTON is to host a key event to mark National Inter Faith Week which takes place between November 20 and 26.
Faith communities and partners from the public sector from across Cheshire will be attending the event titled “Bridging the Gap – public services and faith communities working together” on Monday, November 21 between 9.30am – 3.00pm and hosted by the borough council at the Town Hall, Warrington.
Keynote speaker will be David Rutley, MP for Macclesfield who said: “Since becoming a Cheshire MP in 2010, I have been very impressed by the great work undertaken by so many faith groups in the community. I look forward to celebrating and supporting this work during National Interfaith Week.”
Guests will be welcomed by Cllr Kate Hannon, executive member for leisure, community and culture, who said: “Faith groups inspire people to contribute to providing support, encouragement and empowerment to individuals and local communities. This event will provide an opportunity to celebrate and build on the contributions that faith groups’ members make to their neighbourhoods and to the wider society.
“It is this sense of ownership and responsibility for the local area that needs to be encouraged across social, racial and economic boundaries to make a better society for us all.”
Co-ordinator of the event, the Rev Stephen Kingsnorth, said: “Inter Faith Week is an opportunity to celebrate and encourage inter faith dialogue and action. This is the third Cheshire-wide event.
“This year we will further explore how faith communities can effectively work in partnership with statutory bodies. Previous events have stimulated the formation of inter faith groups in several of the county’s local authority areas.”
The special week aims to strengthen inter faith relations, increase awareness of the different faith communities as well as understanding between people of religious and non religious beliefs.
Cheshire East and Cheshire West and Chester councils are also involved in the event.
