Music teacher's national award

A MUSIC teacher from Warrington has been honoured by national radio station Classic FM in its 13th annual “Music Teacher of the Year” awards.
Frances Sixsmith of Warrington Schools’ Arts and Culture Service was presented with the Peripatetic/Private Music Teacher of the Year award on stage at the Music for Youth Schools Prom Concerts at the Royal Albert Hall.
She was presented with the award by Sarah Teather MP, Minister of State for Children and Families.
The awards seek to recognise and reward teachers who have made a real difference to the musical life of young people. As part of the award, Frances will receive musical equipment and instruments and software for her music service.
The judges commented: “Frances has worked for this service for five years and in that time has made a real difference to children and their experience of keyboard playing.
“When she started there was no whole class keyboard tuition taking place in the area. The project now reaches over 1,000 children per week, working in 24 primary schools.”
Frances said:”I have developed the keyboard project in Warrington for the past five years and feel privileged that my work has been recognised in this way. Peripatetic teaching is as much about working as an individual as well as working in partnership with a music service team and school colleagues.”
