The best we have to offer

A PROGRAMME of special events in the run-up to Christmas will showcase the best that Warrington has to offer.
Cllr Mike Hannon, deputy leader of the council, said more than 30 events were planned, taking place every weekend from November 18 up until Christmas, showcasing the best the town had to offer from the arts, culture entertainment, strong community life and Faith sector.
Strong support pledged to the town by the business, voluntary and Faith sectors would enable the council to promote the town centre, regionally and nationally.
Cllr Hannon told the borough council that with events like the first Warrington Contemporary Arts Festival attracting 4,000 visitors to the town centre in the last month, “footfall” had continued to grow.
During August and September, combined footfall in Warrington was up by 3.3 per cent, compared with the national picture where the average town centre footfall had fallen by 8.1 per cent during the same period.
Asked if trade had also improved, Cllr Hannon replied: “Yes”.
He said support from the business sector for the Christmas programme had been “extremely positive” with more than 100 firms attending a business breakfast to launch the town centre events programme under the banner of “It’s All Going On In Warrington.”
More than 30 businesses pledged support in funding or sponsoring events.
