BUSINESSES, organisations and individuals from across the region that provide exemplar services for disabled people were honoured at a glittering ceremony in Warrington.
The winners of the Positive Action Awards 2011 were announced at the Halliwell Jones Stadium. The awards scheme, now in its eighth year, is organised by Warrington Disability Partnership (WDP).
Awards were presented by chairman of WDP Dave Thompson. He gave an inspirational and uplifting keynote address on his personal experiences of living life to the full with a disability and talked about the partnership’s work over the past 20 years.
He said: “Disabled people make a valuable economic contribution to our region and it is vital that we recognise this and create an environment that allows them to fulfil their potential.
“We had a great response this year receiving over 70 nominations which made the short listing an extremely difficult task.”
Entertainment was provided by Naomi Barker and Carly Ryan from BBC’s Autistic Superstars who also received a special recognition award.
