MEMBERS of Croft scouts are believed to be the first in the country to receive a new scouting award – the community badge.
The badges were presented by deputy mayor of Warrington Cllr Steve Wright after the youngsters had been taken on a tour of the Town Hall by democratic services officer Bryan Magan
It was all part of “Community Week” which had started with the scouts, scout leader Adam Jackson and local councillor Les Hoyle going on a tour of the village looking at local amenities and talking about how they were used and funded.
Cllr Hoyle said: “We looked at the play equipment at the playing field, the local shop and the General Elliot pub.
“The youngsters asked lots of questions about how the pub, the shop and the playing field contributed to local community life.
“It was pouring with rain – but nobody seemed to mind.”
