AFTER hearing of local rivals Prescot Cables decision to revert to amateur status Warrington Town decided to relinquish their share of the gate money following their Doodson Sports Cup clash last week.
It was Prescot’s first game following their announcement and they put in a sterling performance against Warrington who eventually won 2-1 in an evenly contested game.
Prescot described Warrington’s decision as a “fine gesture made by our local rivals.”
Warrington Chairman Gary Skentelbery said: “With a gate of 101 there was every chance Prescot would lose money on staging this game and in light of their recent announcement we, as a club, decided it was only right to relinquish our share of the gate.
“In these tough economic times it is important that the non league family help each other when ever possible.
“Prescot had hosted us three times in the space of six weeks, including an FA Cup clash and extended excellent hospitality towards our directors and club officials.
“We wish them well for the rest of the season and look forward to welcoming them to Cantilever Park later in the season.”
