WARRINGTON-based Centenary Theatre Company is to present the much-loved musical “Fiddler on the Roof” for a second time – 39 years after becoming the first amateur group to stage the classic show.
The show will go on at The Brindley Theatre, Runcorn, from November 15-19, including a Saturday matinee performance
Centenary chairman Dan Grimes, who will be playing the lead role of Tevye, said: “When the company first performed the show in 1972 we found out there was another group somewhere else performing on the same night.
“In order to secure having the amateur premier, we had to start our performance at 7.15pm instead of 7.30pm. It’s the only time we’ve ever done it!”
After recent success at the National Operatic and Dramatic Association awards, Centenary are very much looking forward to performing “Fiddler” which features popular numbers such as “Tradition”, “If I were a Rich Man” and “Sunrise, Sunset”.
This hugely popular musical, set in Tsarist Russia in 1905, sees Tevye, the father of five daughters as he attempts to maintain his family and religious traditions while outside influences encroach upon their lives. It was nominated for 10 Tony Awards, winning nine.
