Poppy Appeal starting early

THIS year’s Poppy Appeal in Warrington is starting early and the Mayor, Cllr Mike Biggin, is encouraging people to back it.
He said: “The annual Poppy Appeal helps over 100,000 ex-servicemen, women and their families each year through its welfare and benevolent schemes.
“I hope in the coming weeks and months that as many local people as possible will support this important cause and display a poppy on their lapel with pride and solidarity.”
This year the British Legion will be turning the public’s attention to the casualties of newer conflicts such as Afghanistan and Iraq as well as taking the time to remember the fallen in the two World Wars.
The legion is also asking for thousands of “poppy people” to volunteer and help with the campaign. Anyone interested should visit www.britishlegion.org.uk or call 0800 085 5324.
