DETECTIVES at Warrington today appealed for witnesses following a robbery in the town.
The incident took place yesterday (Thursday) in the staff car park at Asda in Birchwood.
At around 8pm two female members of staff left the petrol station at the store carrying a plastic bag containing receipts.
They drove a short distance to the store and parked their car at the staff entrance. As they walked towards the entrance they were approached by two men.
One of the men grabbed the bag, shouted at the woman to “hand over the money” and a struggle ensued before both offenders ran off in the direction of Dewhurst Road.
The bag was found a short time later on the A574 Birchwood Way close to Kelvin Close.
One of the women, who is 53-years-old, sustained a wrist injury, which required hospital treatment. The other woman was not injured.
The offenders are believed to be in their early 20s and spoke with a local accent. They were wearing dark clothing and both had their faces covered.
Anyone who witnessed the incident, saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area around the time of the incident or has any information, which might assist officers with their enquiries, is urged to contact police immediately.
The two offenders were seen running past the petrol station towards the store at 8.02pm and back again at 8.06pm. A man, who was carrying a rucksack, was in the area at the time and officers are keen to speak to him as he might have seen something, which could assist with their enquiries.
Police should be called on 0845 458 0000 or alternatively information can be left anonymously via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
