WARRINGTON’S chances of promotion from the Cheshire County League’s second division took a knock when they went down by 72 runs at Stockport Georgians.
The home side batted first and were dismissed for a modest 177, Aussie Steve Heydon taking 3-36 and Simon Hewitt 3-27. But Warrington’s batsmen failed with only Richard Heaney, 34, showing much fight as the side crashed out for 105.
Warrington 3rd also suffered a heavy defeat, being dismissed for 59 and then seeing visitors Upton stroll to victory by 10 wickets.
In the Meller Braggins Cheshire League, Lymm Oughtrington Park clung on for a draw at Cholmondeley who batted first and reached 202-8, Terry Scholes 4-49.
Lymm replied with 173-9, with Scholes again excelling with 72 and Karl Wright hitting 35.
In the Cheshire Alliance, Glazebury strengthened their promotion hopes with a good win by hitting 132 and then dismissing Wirral for 41.
Glazebury 2nd earned a draw after totaling 160 against Rostherne. Matthew Shailer hit 44, Chris Lord 31 and Sean Caine 26. Rostherne were 106-5 at the close.
Appleton enjoyed a nine wicket victory over visiting Frodsham. Edward Pugh took 6-39 as Frodsham were dismissed for 114. Then in-form opener Richard Clarke hit 72 not out and Chris Grumley 24 not out as Appleton hit 116-1.
Appleton 2nd won by five wickets at Wistaston where the home side were bowled out for 174, Philip Jackson 6-46. Mike Arnold hit a fine, unbeaten 101 and David Lomas 44 as Appleton strolled to 175-5.
But Appleton 4th took a pasti ng at Capenhurst where34 they were dismissed for 112, of which Peter Hesford hit 55. Capenhurst replied with 114-3.
Rylands suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Hartford who hit 156 and then dismissed Rylands for a paltry 54, of which Sean Peters hit 27.
