POPULAR local councillor Colin Oliver will received a special guard of honour at his funeral next Wednesday, September 14.
Cllr Oliver, 55, had represented the council on the Cheshire Fire Authority and the Cheshire Police Authority and was a member of numerous council committees.
He will receive a special guard of honour from the fire service when his funeral takes place at Christ Church, Padgate, at 12.30pm followed by a private cremation at Walton Lea Crematorium.
On route to the crematorium, the funeral cortege will travel past Warrington Town Hall, pausing for a few moments outside the Golden Gates.
A reception will be held afterwards at Fearnhead Cross Community Centre, Insall Road, Padgate, Warrington, and the family would welcome anyone able to attend.
Councillor Oliver leaves his widow Christine, daughter Louise, sons Christopher and Lee, son-in-law Steve, father George and sister Lesley.
His family have made a request for family flowers only. However, as Cllr Oliver was an active fund raiser for the Fearnhead Cross Community Centre his family have requested that anyone wishing to make a donation should make it to the Centre.
He died suddenly last Friday night after recently winning the Poulton North by election and had been due to be inducted back in the town hall last Monday.

A great loss to the town. If all councillors were as active in the community as Colin was the UK would be a very different place today.
