A WARRINGTON school for children with special needs has been judged “outstanding” by inspectors who visited just before the summer break.
Fox Wood Special School in Birchwood achieved the “outstanding” grade in a recent Ofsted report.
It noted that both the quality of care and the curriculum at the school are exceptional, that pupils feel very secure, comfortable and stimulated and that outstanding progress in their personal development is made.
Teaching is well adapted to meet the individual needs of pupils and all learners enjoy their time at Fox Wood according to the report.
It found that behaviour is excellent overall and pupils are making exceptional progress in learning how to make a contribution to the community.
A wide range of well-planned enrichment activities, such as music, book-making, yoga and drama, were found to be beneficial to pupils’ educational experiences.
The outstanding leadership of the head teacher and senior leaders was found to promote excellent teamwork amongst staff.
Inspectors praised the strong governing body which makes an invaluable contribution to the school’s strategic planning.
Almost half of the parents and carers completed a questionnaire sent out by Ofsted before the inspection and responders reported that they feel valued as true partners in the education of their children.
Head teacher Karen Nicholls said: “We are a happy, hard working school and the inspection team has recognised this. We are incredibly pleased with this report and all of its findings.
“My thanks to all who make this school such a special place, we have amazing staff and fantastic children and parents.”
Cllr Colin Froggatt, executive board member for children and young people’s services said: “Congratulations to the head and all her staff, the governors, pupils and parents on this simply outstanding report.”
