TRIBUTES were made to well known local councillor Colin Oliver at the full meeting of Warrington Council he was due to be at following his recent by-election victory, before his shock death at the weekend.
They were led by Lib Dem Leader Cllr Ian Marks, who described how the newly elected Poluton North Ward councillor had been in “good form” at a group meeting last Thursday evening.
“He was very much looking forward to Monday night and rejoining the Council after a few months break,” said Cllr Marks.
“Everything was normal and I remember thinking to myself how pleased I was that Colin was back with us.
“Just one day later the world changed and Colin was no longer with us in body although he is very much with us in our thoughts
“On Saturday morning when I heard, I found it difficult to believe what had happened.
“Our sympathies go out to Chris his widow and his children, Louise, Christopher and Lee.
“Colin was one of those people who was highly regarded by people from all political parties and I have been particularly struck by the comments and emails I have received from members other parties.”
Colin was first elected to the council in 2004 and served on both the Police and Fire Authorities for three years.
Cllr Marks added: “Colin or Col as we liked to call him was one of those councillors who cannot be replaced. He worked tirelessly for his community and helped a vast number of people out with their problems. His workload put most of us to shame.
“He was very well-known and people liked his good nature and sense of humour.
“We will miss him terribly.”
His funeral will take place at 12.30pm on Wednesday September 14 at Christ Church, Padgate.
