Business urged to back World Cup bid

BUSINESSES in Warrington are being urged to support the town’s bid to be a host town for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.
The call comes from the borough council, which is bidding to be a host in partnership with Warrington Wolves and Marketing Cheshire.
It comes following a recent report which indicated the town could benefit to the tune of around £2.3m if successful in its bid.
Businesses from Warrington and the wider Cheshire area are invited to attend one of two business breakfast events in the coming month and pledge their support. The sessions are being held on Monday, September 5 and Monday, September 26 from 8am-10am at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Backing from local businesses could really strengthen the town’s bid as the deadline for a final decision on whether or not Warrington will be a host town approaches.
Businesses will be welcomed to the meetings by Warrington Borough Council leader, Cllr Terry O’Neill.
He said: “We hope that lots of businesses in Warrington and the wider Cheshire area will recognise this is the perfect opportunity for them to get behind our bid to be a host town in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup. The economic benefits of the tournament coming to Warrington would be tremendous, so it makes sense for businesses to play their part.”
Firms can register to attend either of the meetings by simply clicking here to confirm their place: http://backthebidbreakfast.eventbrite.com
