DETECTIVES at Warrington today appealed for witnesses after a woman was subjected to a serious assault in the early hours of the morning in south Warrington.
Police were called to Manx Road at 3.30am yesterday where the victim, a 26 year old local woman, was walking home following a night out with friends in the town centre.
As she was walking alone into Irwell Road, she was grabbed from behind and seriously assaulted.
She was later taken to Warrington Hospital for treatment.
Police are keen to speak to a man seen in the area at the time. He is described as being of average build and around 5ft 7 inches tall. He was dressed in a distinctive pink and grey/brown top with horizontal stripes.
Detective Inspector Debbie Dodd, who is overseeing the investigation said: “The victim is recovering after what was clearly a serious violent attack and she has been left traumatised following her ordeal. We are now offering the lady support to help assist her recovery.
“We are keen to speak to anyone in the area at the time, particularly anyone passing Chester Road in a taxi or on foot, who may have seen the suspect in the area, or indeed a man with a woman who may have appeared to have been in a struggle.
“Although crimes such as this are uncommon, I would like to take the opportunity to reiterate safety messages to all our communities. Try to avoid walking alone at night, and maintain an awareness of your surroundings and personal safety. Avoid poorly lit areas and report any suspicious behaviour to the police.”
