WARRINGTON’S young swimmers have given the Olympic team something to live up to.
Swimmers on the borough council’s National Elite Training scheme brought home eight medals from the British Gas ASA National Swimming Age Group and Youth Championships.
David Richardson won one gold (National champion on the 1500m Freestyle), two silver and two bronze medals and finished second overall in the 13-year-old boys’ competition, while Kathleen Dawson won two silvers and a bronze medal, finishing second overall in the 13-year-old girls competition.
All five 13-year-old boys finished in the top 20 swimmers in the country in their age group.
Cllr Kate Hannon, the borough council’s executive member for leisure, community and culture, said: “Huge congratulations to all the Warrington swimmers who took part in this competition. It was a great team effort and special thanks must go to the coaching staff, headed up by Darren Ashley.
“It is a fantastic achievement that Warriors of Warrington Swimming Club, Warrington Borough Council and the schools’ these children attend should be proud of.”
