Seven Green Flags for borough

3

SEVEN parks and open spaces across Warrington have won a prestigious award which means they are among the best in the country.
They have each received a Green Flag Award for being well maintained and managed with excellent facilities.
Awards go to Walton Gardens, Lymm Dam (pictured) Alexandra Park, Risley Moss, St Peters Park, Walton Crematorium and Burtonwood Cemetery.
Cllr Kate Hannon, the borough council’s executive member for leisure, community and culture, said: “The awards recognise the hard work and dedication of our parks officers and rangers and the friends groups who work tirelessly throughout the year to ensure the Warrington’s parks are clean, safe and welcoming.”
Phil Barton, Green Flag Plus partnership chairman, said: “The Green Flag Award scheme, and its growth, is essential in driving up the standards of our parks and green spaces. Access to quality green space is something we all desire and the scheme plays a key role in providing it.
“In these challenging financial times it is heartening that the number of Green Flag Awards continues to grow. As the value of green space and the role it plays in our communities strengthens, we must ensure these high standards remain.”
A public vote for the People’s Choice Award of winners is being held and details are at www.greenflagaward.org.uk

  1. That good. Maybe a lot of the other parks in Warrington can be brought upto the same standards too. As for the public vote… I voted for Walton Gardens but all are a credit to the hard work of the rangers and other groups….and if anyone else wants to vote for them here’s the link to their voting page (bit hard to find which is why I’m putting it). Other parks are obviously on there too if you want to vote for a different one ……… http://keepbritaintidy.org/GreenFlag/GreenFlagAwardSites/NorthWest/Default.aspx?parkID=677

  2. Don’t know where they were looking. Walton Hall, in particular, is a disgrace from what it used to be. Just shows how devalued these kind of awards are.
