FIRE crews at Warrington were called to a serious fire involving an electricity sub-station early this morning.
The blaze was in Lower Wash Lane, Latchford and was at first thought to simply involve a bin.
But firefighters found the sub-station ablaze when they arrived at the scene, shortly after 5am.
Three main jets, hose reel jets, a ground monitor and a thermal imaging camera were used in the operation.
Cars parked nearby had to be moved to avoid being damaged.
The cause of the outbreak is being investigated by fire and police officers. Nearby CCTV footage is being checked.
A police spokeswoman said the fire was being treated as “suspicious” and appealed for witnesses to come forward.
