The A team row to victory!

FOURTEEN teams took to the water at Warrington Rowing Club for the annual St Rocco’s Hospice Dragon Boat Race which was won by The A Team!
The team, which included former Warrington Wolves star Paul Cullen, consisted of local business men and women organised by Nigel Dearden, including Lee Birchall of DV8 Designs.
“The hospice is something that I am always keen to support, “ said Lee who also ran the Bupa Great North Run earlier this year for Warrington Disability Partnership.
When Nigel asked him to take part in the Dragon Boat Race he jumped at the chance. Once again, Nigel rustled up a team of 20 men and women who were all determined to have a great time whilst raising important funds for the hospice.
This is the third year that they have taken part in the Dragon Boat Race, raising £4,705 in 2009 and £5,730 in 2010, this year they are on target to surpass this.
Lee said: “We all had a superb time and were really pleased when we won. Last year when the team entered they came third so it was a great achievement to pass the finish line first this year.”
This coming Saturday The A team will be holding a charity auction to help increase the total amount they hope to raise for St Rocco’s. They have had a wide variety of lots for the auction but are still looking for more.
“The response we have had for auction lots has been great, but in order to really make this a success we would love some more. The more donations we receive the more money we can raise for this vital cause” added Lee.
DV8 Designs are no strangers to helping out the local community and have been working with Warrington Town Football Club on the redevelopment of the ground. They were also a driver behind the Centre for Independent Living at Warrington Disability Partnership, in helping to secure the necessary building regulations.
“As Warrington born and bred I am always keen to help out local organisations and charities as best I can. Utilising the skills that I have gained through my architecture and interior design practice has certainly helped with community projects in the past and I look forward to working on more projects in the future.”
Saturday night will see the fundraising continue at the Grange Sports Club in Latchford where local band ANIMUS will be playing. There will also be a disco from Steve B, stand up bingo and the auction. Any items to donate please contact Nigel on 07747 795361.
