Search and rescue volunteers drafted in

MEMBERS of the Cheshire Search and Rescue team were called out to help at the scene of the major fire in Marsh House Lane, Warrington – reported by warrington-worldwide on Thursday night and Friday morning.
The blaze involved a garage premises containing gas cylinders, creating fears of an explosion.
Nearby residents were evacuated from their homes and taken to temporary rest centres at Fairfield Community Centre and Warrington Wolves’ Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Rail services were halted on the adjacent Liverpool-Manchester railway while firefighters tackled the blaze.
Volunteers from the Search and Rescue team assisted with the evacuation of properties in the area, provided medical care, food, fluids and someone to talk to.
They also looked after displaced family pets.
Some members of the team went home to get games, books, jigsaws, warm blankets and other welfare items to provided comfort for the evacuated residents.
Joanne McClure, team leader, said: “Shortly before midnight approximately 90 per cent of all residents returned home and a few residents were taken to nearby hotels until it was safe for them to return home.”
She thanked local supermarkets for providing food and drinks for the residents and also members of the NHS Hazardous Area Response Team, who were also involved in the operation.

  1. I met them at the recent Peel Hall Park event – really nice people and a lovely cute dog.

    Great work guys and thankfully based in our town at my old depot.

  2. I agree, great work by the Cheshire Search and Rescue team. It’s reassuring to know that there are such community minded people as these, who will come to our aid should ever we need them. A big thankyou to all involved.
