WARRINGTON people affected by the economic recession may find help is at hand when the benefits bus returns to the town.
From August 1-5 it will be based outside the market in the town centre and open from 10am to 3pm each day.
The bus is accessible to all and no appointment is necessary. People can call in for advice or just to collect a claim form.
This visit the benefit team will be working with colleagues in the council’s energy efficiency and recycling teams as well as the pension service to boost benefit take up.
The leader and deputy leader of Warrington Borough Council, Cllrs Terry O’Neill and Mike Hannon, will be visiting from 10.30am to 11.30am on Monday to discuss issues with the public and any support the council can offer.
Cllr O’Neill said: “It is important to find out how our residents are coping in these times of financial hardship, there maybe benefits they are entitled to that are not being collected or bigger issues being faced on a daily basis.
“As a council we are committed to helping all of our residents during these difficult times.”
The benefits bus has been visiting Warrington for four years and is proving very successful. On its last visit in May residents collectively qualified for benefits of over £19,000, with one customer from Great Sankey receiving £5,000 in extra cash.
Organisers say every year millions of pounds of benefit go unclaimed across the UK.
