Grappers struggle in the rain

RAIN wiped out a good part of cricket in the Warrington area – but some matches were played.
Grappenhall, desperate for points if they are to survive in the Chapel Press Cheshire County League premier division, managed a shortened game against Hyde at Broad Lane but were unable to register a much needed win.
Batting first, they declared on 167-4 after 35 overs. Richard Green hit 66, Adam Roylance 42 and Iain Wright 27 not out.
The visitors replied with 169-2 in 30.3 overs. Skipper Steve Titchard took both wickets for a cost of 53 runs.
Warrington also managed to get a complete game in, batting first and declaring on 170-4 against Tattenhall.
Malcolm Agar top scored with 70, Michael Rudd hit 42 and Drew Martell an unbeaten 36.
Tattenhall raced to 171-3, despite Martell claiming 2-53
Warrington 3rd declared on 169-6 against Birkenhead Park. Tom Corroboy hit 49 and James Waldron 36.
Birkenhead Park struggled against accurate bowling and were 125-8 at the close. Wesley Charlton took 3-54 and Lorna Thomas 3-12.
In the Cheshire Alliance, Appleton chalked up a welcome victory. In-form opener Richard Clarke hit 51, Tom LOmas 38 and Ed Sygrove 34 as the side batted first and totalled 175 against Wirral at Lyons Lane.
Wirral were dismissed for 151, Lomas taking 3-61 and Sygrove 3-28.
Glazebury 2nd got the better of a drawn game at Ellesmere Port.
Batting first, they were 158-9 at the close, Andy Durrington, 33 and Dave Acton, 41, top scoring. The home side were 131-7 at the close, Rhys Marsh, 3-19 and Gerard Southworth 2-32 sharing the bowling honours.
