WARRINGTON’S Walton Hall Golf course is receiving glowing reviews after a major overhaul.
The ASLMGC championships were held at the club and were deemed a huge success.
John Diprose, secretary at Walton Hall Golf Club said: “The course was presented in truly great condition. I was especially impressed by the work done to dig out and trim the ditches. It was probably very time consuming, but it made a huge difference to the general presentation.”
He said captains and secretaries from the 10 clubs taking part were unanimous in their praise for the course – both architecturally and especially in the quality of the greens and preparation of the fairways.
It was a doubly successful day for Walton Hall which won the main event and are hoping for a similarly successful festival of golf which starts on Thursday August 4.
Since opening four new USGA greens in May 2008, extensive work has been carried out including draining of the 12th and 9th fairways, surface works to aid play on the 15th green, construction of two new bridge crossings, new disabled toilets and refurbishment of the existing toilets.
Cllr Kate Hannon, Warrington Borough Council’s executive member for leisure, community and culture, said: “Walton has long been known as one of the best municipal courses in the country and this latest praise is testament to the great work of the staff involved.”
