A WARRINGTON youth support group has produced an educational DVD tackling the problems of teen drug and alcohol use.
A specially selected audience saw a screening of the film made by members of the PhaZe Peer Leadership Project.
“Girl on the street”and “Boy at a party” explore the themes of drug and alcohol use, risk-taking behaviour and the consequences for young people.
The group was supported by Warington Borough Council’s Young Person’s Drug and Alcohol Team (PhaZe) and the Youth Support Service.
Following the screening at Westbrook Odeon Cinema the DVD was made available as a resource to be used by youth workers when working with young people on reducing the risks associated with drug and alcohol use.
Lliam Delappe a member of the PhaZe Peer Leadership Project, said: “I really enjoyed working with the other young people in the group and the staff who put their time and effort into making things happen. I think we achieved our goal and hope it becomes effective and helpful to younger people throughout Warrington”.
Cllr Colin Froggatt, the borough council’s executive member for children and young people’s services, said: “Everybody who has been involved in this project should be extremely proud of their achievement. I am sure their hard work will benefit a great many of their peers and it is right that they are commended for this.”
All the young people involved in the project received certificates of their achievement and have developed a portfolio of evidence that will be used towards gaining a nationally recognised AQA accreditation.
