Barbara to be ordained priest

A DEACON at Newchurch Parish Church Culcheth and Christ Church Croft will be ordained a priest at Liverpool Cathedral this month following years of training.
Rev Barbara Alldred (pictured) will receive her Priesting from the Right Rev James Jones, Bishop of Liverpool.
Barbara’s training began five years ago and involved various interviews and examinations, including four days at a Bishop’s conference, where if she did not impress enough, she would not have been granted the opportunity to progress.
Upon receiving her ordination, Rev Alldred will then be able to officiate at weddings and Holy Communion at Newchurch and Christ Church – something she is extremely proud of.
She said: “I am thrilled. It will be lovely to be able to take Communion in the area where I live. I am proud that I will be able to serve the area and help bring people from the community together.”
Barbara became a deacon in June last year and since then she had continued studying at evening classes and on weekend trips, while continuing to serve the Culcheth area.
The service will take place at Liverpool Cathedral on June 12.
