Residents fight store plan

1

PLANS for a new convenience store on the fringe of Warrington town centre have run into opposition from nearby residents.
They claim the proposed shop in Battersby Lane, at the junction with Leonard Street, will cause parking problems, noise, litter and a potential increase in violence and criminal damage. They also claim there are similar shops in the vicinity.
The shop – which currently has planning consent for office use – has been standing empty for about two years..
Planning officers are recommending the scheme be approved.
They say the proposal is for a small retail unit on a busy main road where on-street parking is available.
The amenities of nearby houses can be preserved by imposing appropriate conditions on opening hours.

  1. assuming this is the old St Roccos building (surely they can’t mean “Ruth’s” (showing my age) They’re right…theres a convenience shop at the other end of leonard street on orford lane, and since the street is only 200 yards long it defies logic ??

“The amenities of nearby houses can be preserved by imposing appropriate conditions on opening hours.” what conditions would this be on a convenience shop surely the term implies that the shop is open at convenient hours…till 10pm?

I’m no-where near this place so wont be affected,, but used to live there as a kid. So I know it well and can give a balanced impartial view there are terraced houses there, which means all residents park on the street, being that they are terraced…means 1 car per houshold room…none for customers of a shop, and yes kids will hang around causing a nuisance .

This planning department warrington have are just the biggest morons that ever walked this green earth, they have yet to get ANYTHING right !!!
