College's special visitors

TWO special visitors were welcomed to a Warrington college campus to support a week-long initiative aimed at promoting diversity.
Dawn Georgeson from The Cheshire Football Association and Roy Turnham who represents both Everton and England at Blind Football, visited Priestley College to put BTEC Sports students through their paces.
The FA has an ethos that anybody who wishes to enjoy the game should be given the opportunity to do so and inclusion and participation in all sports is also of paramount importance at Priestley.
Dawn and Roy taught students how to play football with a range of visual impairments from partial to full blindness.
Students looked at the range of different type balls that are used in the sport of Blind Football and were given an insight into what it could realistically be like to play sport without the use of their sight.
In a separate event, students were also able to gain an overview of wheelchair basketball before trying their hand at that particular game.
Sports Tutor Danielle Toward, said: “Having both Dawn and Roy on campus was of great benefit to our students, many of who are involved in community coaching programmes.
“Diversity and the promotion of sport for all, are messages we constantly push, and this event helped our students to think outside their comfort zone.”
