Students aiming for chart success

MUSIC students from Warrington are aiming for chart success with a single launched on their own record label.
The students, from the University of Chester’s Warrington campus, are launching Bounce by Rachel Butterworth vs DaSonJa in Manchester this month under the university’s Aspiration label.
The launch is part of a showcase gig organised and performed by third year Commercial Music Production students.
During their final year the students have recruited, recorded, produced, mixed and mastered music acts. In many cases they have written the music and are either part of the act or, in some cases, the whole act.
Performing and comparing the night will be third year student Craig McCaul, also known as comedy rap act Troy.
Student Liz Ahye, one of the organisers, said: “A big part of this final year project is to organise a music showcase which includes getting the acts we’ve been developing to perform at a top venue, attracting a large audience and marketing them to the music industry.”
The single sees singer Rachel Butterworth team up with house DJs Dave Wiltshire, Sonny Van Loef and Janis Sokolovskis who are all third year students.
The Aspiration showcase takes place at Manchester Academy 3, on Oxford Road, on May 10 from 7.30pm.
