Unicorns reach final

LATCHFORD Albion Unicorns U12’s secured a place in the North West Counties Development final when they beat Cadishead Rhinos 16 – 14 in the semi final at Cadishead.
Latchford started the game hoping to make their way to Blackpool for the final. However things did not start as planned as they conceded an early try which was unconverted, and 11 minutes in they were down to 12 men as they got a red card in a questionable refereeing decision.
The Latchford side came back however, and their efforts were rewarded when Ellis Ditchfield crashed over for their opening score, which was converted by Joe Adawee. The game was locked at 4-6 to the away side.
This is how the game would stay until half time – however both sides came close to crossing the line again on numerous occasions.
The second half saw a repeat of the first when the Rhinos crossed for another unconverted try, making the score 8-6 to the home side. This was when the sidelines became a factor in the game and Latchford were called to focus. They rose to the challenge magnificently.
Latchford started to take control of the game, and when Joe Adawee crossed for a converted try to make the score 14-12, the game was set for a tense finale.
Latchford were attacking the Rhinos line and coming closer to scoring. Then in the dying minutes of the game Lewis Harmer scooted from acting half to get held up for what seemed to be the end of the game. Then Lewis managed to somehow get the ball out to James Mercer in a David Solomona style pass, which James then fed to Joe Whittaker who crossed to score what turned out to be the match winning try.
The game became tense as Cadishead had one last throw of the dice, but Latchford heroic defence held strong and caused the Rhinos to knock on over the line, and with that the final whistle blew.
