Worry over theme park expansion

A CANDIDATE in the borough council elections at Warrington is calling for a “full and open” consultation into controversial proposals to expand the Gulliver’s World theme park.
Bob MacLaren, the Conservative candidate for Westbrook says he has been contacted by residents worried about potential increases in traffic, litter, camping close to residential areas and damage to wildlife areas.
They are particularly concerned about the likely impact on adjacent nature reserve areas.
Mr MacLaren said: “It is becoming clear that residents feel there has been little consultation on these changes, both locally and in the wider Warrington area.
“No doubt there are some good parts to these proposals but equally there are some things that seem very concerning, in particular the development of an access road running between Callands and Ladywood from the Four Bridges roundabout towards Sankey Canal and a spur road connecting through to Old Camp Road.
“I am calling for full and open consultations by both Gulliver’s and Warrington Borough Council about these proposals. Local residents are very worried and it is really important that everyone effected gets a chance to understand the proposed changes and express their views.”
