ONE lane of the M62 eastbound carriageway was closed at Warrington after a car burst into flames at Junction 9.
Fire crews from Warrington and Birchwood were called to the scene yesterday and found the car ablaze on the hard shoulder directly beneath the junction.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the outbreak using a hose reel jet while other firefighters closed the first lane for safety reasons.
Once the fire was extinguished they handed over control of the scene to the Highways Agency.
Cause of the fire has not been revealed. No-one was hurt.
