Gardeners celebrate new allotment deal

MEMBERS of Stockton Heath Allotment Association are celebrating a new deal they have struck with the parish council.
Councillors have approved a new seven year letting agreement with the association – and at the same time removed a condition which previously restricted the sale of produce grown on the allotment site, to members of the association.
Under the new agreement, the association can sell to the wider community.
The allotments are unique in that they are managed by the association’s members rather than by the parish council.
Every year, parish councillors visit the allotments in Red Lane, Appleton for a formal inspection – and are entertained by the gardeners who put on a buffet in their hut.
In recent years, the association has also put on an open day as part of the Stockton Heath Festival.
Visitors travel along the canal from London Bridge to Red Lane Bridge where they disembark and buy produce from the allotment holders.
