POLICE at Warrington are treating a house fire as racially aggravated arson.
Burning rags soaked with an accelerant were pushed through the door of a house on Valiant Close, Padgate.
A couple and their four children were inside at the time, but fortunately a neighbour spotted the fire and extinguished it before it had chance to take hold.
Police today appealed for help from the public following the blaze at 10.45pm last night (Wednesday).
They would like to speak to anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the Padgate area last night.
Detective Sergeant Gordon Wilson said: “Fortunately no one was injured as a result of this attack, however the consequences of such reckless action could have been much more severe.
“Extra patrols are in the area and we are speaking to the local community but I am keen to speak to anyone that may have information about the incident.”
Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0845 458 0000, or alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
