Giants do the double

LATCHFORD Albion Giants followed up their Lancashire Cup Final success with a hard fought win over Shevington Sharks in the North West Counties U17 final.
The lead flipped a few times in the first half but Latchford pulled ahead before half-time and maintained their lead throughout the second half despite intense pressure from Shevington.
The hard earned victory was finally sealed by Ashley Platt-Hughes’ final try and some reliable goal kicking from Steven Pilkington.
Credit had to be given to the whole team who solidly stood up to Shevington’s second half onslaught, especially younger members Sam Roberts and Jack Wheelan.
A club spokesman said praise was due to coaches Nick, Nick and Liam, whose dedication had played a significant part in helping the Giants achieve success throughout the year and enabled them to lift two cups.
Try scorers: Sean Boyle (1), Mathew Dowman (1), Lloyd O’Brien (1), Luke Gilooley (1), Ashley Platt-Hughes (1). Goal scorer: Steven Pilkington (4).
The day was also a success for the U16s Latchford Albion Unicorns who progressed to the semi final of the National Youth Cup.
