CONSULTATION on a proposed high speed rail network, which could have a terminal in Warrington, has been welcomed by a local MP.
Warrington South MP David Mowat says the “Y shaped” network will link London, the West Midlands, Manchester and Leeds.
Future expansions will link the line with Liverpool and the West Coast Main Line with Warrington being a potential location for a terminal.
He said: “High Speed Rail could make a real difference in Warrington and the plans will lead to a better connected Britain. Countries across the world are already pressing ahead with ambitious plans for high speed rail.
“The scheme will create up to 20,000 jobs in the North West and Warrington needs its share of those.”
Mr Mowat believes the project will benefit Warrington.
He said: “As well as seeing an improved service on the West Coast Main Line as a result of freed up capacity, Warrington would be the ideal location for HS2 (high speed) to connect with the existing West Coast Main Line.
“I would urge everyone in Warrington to get involved in this consultation. We cannot afford to be left behind – investing in high speed rail is vital to the prosperity of future generations.”

“investing in high speed rail is vital to the prosperity of future generations.” Notice how Mr Mowatt does not state what is planned as the ‘key’ to the prosperity he so clearly forsees. Why doesn’t he just be honest and give the real reason why high tech transport links are being developed to and through Warrington….is it because he knows that this information will certainly not be received with enthusiasm?
