Gallant Wizards bow out of cup

WARRINGTON Wizards went down to a 48-10 defeat at Hunslet Hawks in the Carnegie Challenge Cup 3rd Round at the South Leeds Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The gallant Wizards gave a tenacious performance for the full eighty minutes and can be rightly proud of the display against the very experienced Co-operative Championship side.
The big Hunslet side used their professionalism well and deservedly won the game but they knew that they had been in a hard encounter and were very complimentary about the Wizards after the game.
The try scorers for Warrington were winger Darren Forshaw and centre Matt Taylor. Hooker Warren Ayres landed one conversion.
After the game Head Coach Chris Campbell was very upbeat. He said, “I am really pleased with the way everyone of my players performed today. We gave them to much respect in the first twenty minutes and that allowed them to race into a 24-0 lead but for the remainder of the half we kept them scoreless and managed to register our first try. We really took the game to them in that period and then in the second half we kept going right until the end and were rewarded with a further try. We now have six weeks before our league season starts and we will be working very hard in training to make sure that we are ready to defend our title.”
