Oxbridge beckons for college trio

1

THREE students from Warrington’s Priestley College have been awarded Oxbridge places from September.
Jake Whittaker, Matthew Bird and Gavan Murphy have all been involved in an extensive application process, supported all the way by a thorough system at Priestley that encourages such choices.
If they go onto obtain their predicted grades, Jake will read History and Matt will study the prestigious Philosophy, Politics and Economics programme at Oxford.
Meanwhile Gavan who actually left Priestley last year with an A*, two A grades and a B has a confirmed place to study Anthropology and Archaeology at Cambridge, after completing a year out.
Jake said: “I’m thrilled about the opportunity and I was encouraged to apply while at Priestley. The grades I need are the ones I’m predicted so it all looks positive.”
Matt said: “I didn’t expect to get into Oxford, and only thought it was an option after I went on a college trip but I decided to give it a shot and got the offer.”
Senior Tutor, Mel Jackson, said: “Priestley has an extensive support programme in place to help those with Oxbridge aspirations. We are delighted that Jake, Matt and Gavan have been made offers and look forward to continuing to help them ahead of the transition.”
