Snapshot of the population

1

THE once in a decade “snapshot” of the UK’s population takes place on March 27 – and Warrington people are asked to join in.
The 2011 Census will gather information about the population to allow the Government and organisations such as councils and health authorities to plan services such as housing, education, health and transport.
Census statistics are used to make decisions on the allocation of funding for local authorities, such as Warrington Borough Council. Officers say it is important that the population estimate is as accurate as possible.
The census has been carried out nationally every 10 year since it was started in 1801.
The questionnaire will be delivered to each household and will feature the purple 2011 Census logo. It will also contain an individual Internet code to allow people to complete it on line.
The Office of National Statistics, which is responsible for carrying out the census, offers help to complete the form – such as language guidance booklets, large print format, online help, telephone helplines and completion events across Warrington.
Further information is available at www.census.gov.uk or by telephone from March 4 at 0300 0201 101.
Personal data collected through the census is confidential and the information given is protected by law.

  1. Didn’t think there was any choice about ‘joining in’ – it’s compulsory, with prosecution and a fine if you don’t complete the quuestionnaire!
