LATCHFORD Albion Giants triumphed in the NWC Under 17s Lancashire Cup Final, defeating Wigan St Patricks 32-22.
Albion were ahead from the start and pulled away to 18 points clear of St Patricks just before half-time.
Their game started to slip early in the second half, permitting St Patricks to go two points ahead. But Latchford’s spirited final 20 minutes saw them score three tries in succession to clinch the title. Steven Pilkington out kicked his opposite number at St Patricks and both Mathew Dowman and Ashley Platt-Hughes put in hard attacking runs to gain two tries apiece. Luke Gilooley provided safe hands at fullback and Andrew Gilbert and James Nurney shone in both attack and defence. Every player on the pitch had an excellent game which showed in the result and is a tribute to their coaches, the two Nicks and Liam who have spent their spare time throughout the year to get the lads playing to this standard.
Try scorers: Ashley Platt-Hughes (2), Mathew Dowman (2), Andrew Gilbert (1), Declan Clarke (1).
Goal scorers: Steven Pilkington (4).
Man of match; Mathew Dowman
