Rogue traders alert for the disabled

A WARNING has been issued at Warrington about doorstep traders offering disability aids and other goods.
Trading Standards chiefs say the traders have been active in the Thelwall area, offering goods such as adjustable beds, windows, and roofing tiles door to door.
Cllr Mike Biggin, (pictured) the borough council’s executive member for public protection, said: “I am concerned that members of the local community, particularly elderly residents, may be persuaded to buy goods on their doorstep without having the chance to shop around first or examine the items at close hand.
“Worryingly, some residents have reported that traders can be very insistent and aggressive.
“Trading standards and the police have been quick to take action on these reports. I would urge anyone who has contact details from this type of trader to get in touch with trading standards.”
Residents can also contact Warrington Disability Partnership on 01925 240064 for advice on suitable equipment.
The Trading Standards consumer advice helpline is 08454 040506.
Laws exist to protect customers who have been the victims of aggressive selling practices, have been pressurised into agreeing to have work carried out or who have been escorted to the bank to withdraw cash.
Warrington and Halton trading standards can take action in partnership with the police if they are notified by residents when a trader is in the area.
