A JACOBEAN hall near Warrington will be the setting for a charity race organised by Cancer Research UK.
Local women are being invited to enter the Race for Life at Arley Hall and Gardens on Sunday July 17.
Entry is now open and organisers are urging people to register early so they have plenty of time to train and fundraise.
Last year 2,183 women took part and raised an incredible £118,820. This year, organisers are hoping to attract 3,000 women to put their best feet forward and raise £196,145.
Race for Life is the UK’s largest women-only fundraising event and all the money raised goes to fund Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work.
Women of all ages, fitness levels and abilities are invited to join in and walk, jog or run 5k to raise money to help beat cancer. All women are welcome, whether on their own or as part of a group.
Cancer Research UK event manager Hannah Thomas said: “Every hour, around four people are diagnosed with cancer in the North West.
“When Race for Life started in 1994, many people diagnosed with cancer did not survive. Since then, money generated by Race for Life has supported Cancer Research UK’s work and now more people are beating the disease than ever before.”
She said the Arley venue offered “stunning surroundings” which gave the race an “amazing atmosphere.”
Shelagh Bebington, the hall’s corporate sales and wedding co-ordinator, has taken part in the Race for Life at Arley for six consecutive years – and still has all her medals.
She said: “I always look forward to Race for Life. It’s not only a very uplifting experience but great fun.”
Anyone interested in joining the race can do so at www.raceforlife.org or by calling 0871 641 1111.
