Craig slims down for marathon

A “MID-life crisis” on reaching 40 prompted a Warrington businessman to change his lifestyle and train for the London Marathon.
Owner of Carpets Direct in Orchard Street, Craig Bennett felt unhealthy and weighed 18 stone four pounds. Since starting training and healthy eating 12 weeks ago, he has lost two and half stone.
Craig is married to Suzanne and has two children Jessica, 13, and Thomas, four, plus a baby on the way in June. He said he wanted to feel healthy for his family and to be able to play games with his kids.
He puts his weight loss down to running, going to the gym and eating healthy food – cutting out crisps and biscuits.
“I feel a hell of a lot better now,” he said.
“Once I decided to get ‘in the zone’ and go for fitness it was ok. I am not expecting to complete the marathon in record time – I just want to finish the course.”
As part of his training he recently completed a 10k run in Preston, and was pleased with his result.
He is seeking sponsorship for the run, on Sunday April 17, and hopes to raise £1,500 for Phabkids, a charity that helps disabled children and their families. Anyone interested in sponsoring should call into the shop (behind Sainsburys) or ring 01925 419423.
